The future of California was a hot topic at the Milpitas Business Forum Luncheon on Wednesday, with a Silicon Valley CEO as the featured speaker.

Russell Hancock, who is the President and CEO of Joint Venture, Silicon Valley Network, spoke at the Milpitas Chamber of Commerce-organized luncheon about what’s going on with the state and theorized how it can get straightened out of its current mess.

The chairman of the chamber’s government affairs committee, Frank De Smidt, said one of the ideas Hancock suggested was holding a state constitutional convention. Hancock also answered questions about possibly reforming California’s constitution.

“It was a very interesting address and it covered some very important issues,” De Smidt said.

De Smidt said the chamber is trying to attract some gubernatorial candidates to speak at future luncheons.

The next Milpitas Business Forum Luncheon will take place at 11:30 a.m. on Feb. 18 at Embassy Suites Hotel, 901 East Calaveras Blvd. Joel Deceuster, from the One Page Business Plan company, will be the featured speaker, De Smidt said. For tickets, contact the chamber at 262-2613.
