Basketball

The Milpitas High School girls varsity basketball team took a tough road loss on Tuesday night, losing to host Los Gatos, 59-16.

Sophomore guard/forward Joann Chau led the Trojans (6-12 overall, 5-3 in Santa Clara Valley Athletic League Play) with six points. Junior guards Kimi Takeda and Hannah Cheng also contributed three and two points, respectively.

The Wildcats (17-2 overall, 8-0 league) pulled ahead early, leading 27-5 at halftime. Junior center Dana Webster led Los Gatos with 15 points.

At 6:15 p.m. on Friday, the Trojans will face Cupertino.

The boys basketball team will travel to play Saratoga at 7 p.m. today.

Soccer

Both the girls and the boys varsity soccer teams tied Tuesday, with the girls finishing scoreless against Cupertino and the boys ending knotted 1-1 against Gunn.

In the Trojan girls game, senior goalkeeper Vanessa Martinez played the full 80 minutes, making four saves in her seventh shutout of the year. The Trojans are now 7-6-3 overall and 4-2-2 against league opponents. They will go to San Jose to face Lynbrook at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday.

For the boys soccer team (6-8-3 overall, 2-4-2 league), junior forward Martin Lopez scored the one goal, with an assist from senior midfielder Dinesh Prasad. Next, Milpitas will host Los Gatos at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday.
